The
first step to setting up your website is to call us and activate your
webspace. Our toll-free number is 1.866.DCTEXAS. You can reach us
from 9am - 9pm Monday through Friday. When you call, you will be provided
with a unique Username and Password to log onto our web servers.
-
The
part that takes the most time to do is actually create your website.
If you are a beginner at making websites, you might want to check
out the following link HTML
For Beginners. This site provides many useful resources on the
initial design of your site.
-
Once
you're site is designed, you'll need to upload it so people can view
it. Uploading pretty much means publishing. So you will need a program
to upload (or publish) files from your computer to our web server.
If you have done webdesign before, you may already have such a program.
If not, we highly recommend FileZilla.
This program is simple and free, yet very effective.
-
Once
you have Filezilla installed on your computer, run the program. From
the opening window is where we'll set everything up. You're screen
should look like this:
In here, all you have to worry about is as follows:
Address: www.mydctexas.net
User: your Internet account login
Password: your Internet account password
-
After
you have entered the information in correctly, click on Quickconnect.
-
When
you've connected, you'll see a window similar to this one:
The left pane displays the contents of your computer. From the drop
box above the left pane you can navigate your computer. Navigate to
the location of the files for you created for your website. When you've
come across the files you wish to upload, all you have to do is double
click the file. It will then appear in the right pane of the window.
The right pane displays the contents on your webserver. Now, granted
the image above shows files in the right pane, when you log on for
the first time the right pane will be blank. This is because you haven't
uploaded any files yet. But after you have uploaded some files, the
address you would access them through would be:
http://www.mydctexas.net/username/name of file
So let's say you uploaded a website you created and saved as "page1.html"
and your username is "johndoe". The file address would be:
http://www.mydctexas.net/johndoe/page1.html

That's
all there is to it. If you have any questions, feel free to call us
toll free at 1.866.DCTEXAS or email us at support@dctexas.net.
Please keep in mind that we are unable to assist customers with actual
design of webpages.
